i have just bought a skydemon and with a little help managed to register it and download the maps.unfortunately when i try to sync it with the computer i get a device can not be found from windows mobile device centre.

can anyone tell me what i may be doing wrong.

Mobile Device Centre can be very pernickety.

First question .. does MDC say your device is connected? If not, SD will not see it either.

My suggestion is to use a USB card reader and just sync the card. This is usually faster and has the advantage that you cannot inadvertently "brick" your device or mess up important files on the internal memory of your device. Also I think I am right in saying you have to install SkyDemon to the card/device first before syncing  .. used to be the case, not sure if it is now.

It also depends on which device you are using. For example the Navigon 8410 will not run without intsalling miopocket and (I think) compact framework (.net for winCE).

What is the name & type of portable GPS device you are using with SkyDemon and are trying to sync with the PC?

I obviously don't know what type of device you are using, but from my experience a lot of devices arrive preset to 'mass storage device' and need to  reset to show 'activesync' You need to go into 'settings' on your device and have a look and if necessary change it to 'activsync'. Your PC wil then identify the device correctly.

To add to the above, when you change to Mass Storage MAKE SURE you are not connected to PC when you do this. I did this once and bricked the device for good. May not happen to all devices but it can happen.

The original poster has probably bought an actual SkyDemon device, not some third-party device.

To answer the question, make sure Windows Mobile Device Centre is installed on your PC prior to connecting the unit. Once your PC and the unit have established communications you'll see the unit appear in your My Computer window, and SkyDemon Plan will be able to communicate with it.

If it helps, I had the same problem but noticed that if I disconnected my PDA from the PC and then re-connected the SkyDemon device it connected to Windows Mobile Device Centre and then I was able to sync.  It was probably a conflict between the 2 devices.  Chris.
